No, the terms faceplate and faceplate trims are not the same thing. These terms are often used interchangeably, however they are different. Faceplates typically refers to full front housing of the controller, which is effectively the front “plate” of the controller. These require disassembly of the controller to install. Faceplate trims are less invasive and refer to the bottom part of the faceplate “the trim” which can be easily removed and customised.

Yes faceplate trims are typically relatively easy to install. There is no need for anything invasive or any dreaded soldering. They simply snap onto the controller without needing any advanced tools. Our faceplate trims are made from ABS plastic, the same material used in the original trims and faceplates. The material is lightweight and designed for regular use the same as the original part.

How do I make my own controller faceplate?

Our faceplate trims are created using heat pressing. However the manufacturing process of faceplates is somewhat kept quiet, I do not know why, however the main processes are as follows; hydro dipping, laser printing, painting or heat pressing. All of these processes involve producing blanks then picking your desired method of colouring. For full faceplate design you would opt to either paint, hydro dip or purchase a vacuum heat press machine. You would need to have a jig moulded of your faceplate, and from then on it would be a simple process. For faceplate trims you could simply paint these yourself or opt for any of the other options.
